Project Summary
Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage, directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton, and presented at the Leo Kreielsheimer Theater at Seattle Repertory Theater. Set in Manhattan, 1905, the play follows Esther, a seamstress known for crafting exquisite undergarments, who dreams of a life stitched together with love and independence. After a hopeful long-distance courtship leads to marriage, an unexpected and forbidden spark ignites with a neighbor, and Esther finds herself navigating the tangled threads of romance, race, class, and self-determination.
