Ibicaba: O Paraíso Prometido

Ibicaba: O Paraíso Prometido marks the return of Golden Leopard-winning director Andrea Štaka, adapting Eveline Hasler's novel about Swiss immigration to Brazil's coffee plantations in the mid-19th century. The film stars Ella Rumpf as a single mother who emigrates from Switzerland in 1855, expecting opportunity but encountering exploitation alongside enslaved workers. Ana Flávia Cavalcanti plays Inocência, an enslaved woman whose healing knowledge and resistance strategies intersect with the newcomer's predicament. Júlio Andrade rounds out the lead cast. MyMama Entertainment produces in partnership with Switzerland's Cinédokké Sagl and Brazil's MMM Carioca. The project secured the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award at the 2025 Berlinale Co-Production Market and is planning to film in Switzerland and Cordeirópolis, Brazil in 2027.
