Between Moments

Between Moments is an intimate, actor-driven romantic drama set over the course of one day in San Diego. Zoey, an aspiring and unproduced screenwriter, lives in a beautiful high-rise condo with her husband. Zoey's life appears comfortable, but inside she is quietly suffocating. Her marriage has gone emotionally cold, her work-for-hire writing career is threatened by artificial intelligence, and her dream of becoming a produced screenwriter feels far away. A massive anti-ICE protest builds in the streets below her condo, and Zoey feels increasingly trapped inside her own life. The same morning, Jack Burns, a charming British man, prepares for a mysterious appointment he cannot miss. Jack is witty, cultured, funny, and wounded. He and Zoey meet by chance at an art gallery, where a playful argument over a painting becomes the beginning of an unexpected connection. Police alerts and protest closures push them back to their building. Zoey invites Jack in for coffee until things quiet down. Over the course of the day, their conversation deepens. They talk about writing, aging parents, marriage, music, death, fear, desire, and how a day can alter the course of a life. They flirt, dance, argue, laugh, reveal themselves, and briefly become the people they wish they could still be. What begins as a witty encounter becomes an emotional reckoning. As the protest grows louder, Zoey's inner life comes into sharper focus. Jack offers her not escape exactly, but recognition: he sees her talent, her loneliness, her humor, and her hunger to feel alive. But Jack's looming appointment means their connection may be temporary. By nightfall, Zoey is forced to confront what this day has awakened in her and what she is willing — or unwilling — to do with the rest of her life.
