Founded in 2008 by Emmy-nominated, AACTA, and Logie award-winning producer Joanna Werner, the company is best known for the critically acclaimed ABC drama series The Newsreader (three-time AACTA Best Drama Series winner) and the Netflix global hit teen series Surviving Summer. In March 2024, Werner Film Productions was acquired by BBC Studios Productions Australia, expanding its access to global distribution while continuing to operate as a Melbourne-based production entity.
