Swedish Film Institute

The Swedish Film Institute (Svenska Filminstitutet / SFI), founded in 1963 by the Swedish state and professional film industry bodies, is the government-funded statutory body responsible for promoting, supporting, and developing film across Sweden. Its mandate encompasses funding production, supporting distribution and exhibition, preserving Sweden's national film heritage (including the national film archive and cinematheque), promoting Swedish cinema internationally, and administering the annual Guldbagge Awards. As of 1 January 2017, the Institute is solely financed by state funding and is governed by a nine-member board appointed by the Swedish government.
