About

Quintessence Theatre Group is Philadelphia's only professional, text-based actor-focused classical repertory theatre, founded in 2009 by Alexander Burns and Pamela Reichen and located at the historic Sedgwick Theater in the Mt. Airy neighborhood. The company is dedicated to bringing epic works of classic drama and literature to the contemporary stage, re-envisioning Shakespeare, Chekhov, Molière, O'Neill, and other canonical writers through what it calls a 'progressive classics' or 'classics forward' approach. Quintessence produces six productions per season, operates robust education programs, and is the only Equity theatre company serving Northwest Philadelphia.
