The Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) is France's national public agency for cinema and the moving image, established by law on October 25, 1946, and operating under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture with full legal and financial autonomy. It is responsible for conceiving and implementing state policy across the film, television, video, digital creation, and video games industries, including regulation, financial support, heritage preservation, and international promotion. The CNC funds French audiovisual production through a system of taxes (on cinema tickets, TV services, and digital distribution), disbursing hundreds of millions of euros annually to support creators, distributors, and exhibitors. It is widely regarded as one of the world's most influential national film agencies and a global model for cultural policy in the audiovisual sector.
