About
The EU's MEDIA Programme (officially the MEDIA strand of Creative Europe) is a European Commission initiative, founded in 1990, designed to support the development, distribution, and promotion of European film, television, video games, and audiovisual works. The programme—whose name is a French acronym for 'Mesures pour Encourager le Développement de L'Industrie Audiovisuelle'—operates under the Creative Europe umbrella (since 2014) with a total budget of €2.44 billion for 2021–2027. In 2026 it marks its 35th anniversary, and it is administered operationally by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) on behalf of the European Commission. The programme is transitioning toward a successor initiative, AgoraEU (2028–2034), which will include a strengthened MEDIA+ strand.
