About
DNA Films (legally Franchise Holder Limited, trading as DNA Films) is a British independent film and television production company founded in 1997 by producers Andrew Macdonald and Duncan Kenworthy — the name derived from 'Duncan N Andrew' — originally as one of three UK National Lottery-backed franchises. The company is headquartered in Clerkenwell, London and is best known for producing films directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War, Warfare) and Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, T2 Trainspotting), and for Emmy Award-winning television including Shōgun (2024). DNA also operates a television division — DNA TV Limited — in partnership with Walt Disney Television, and maintains a deliberately small, independent team with no overhead or first-look deal with any studio.
