Abbey National plc was a major UK-based retail and commercial bank, originally a building society, that grew into one of Britain's largest banks. It was the first UK building society to demutualise (1989), traded on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker ANL, and was acquired by Spain's Banco Santander in November 2004. It was rebranded as 'Abbey' in 2003, then fully renamed Santander UK plc in January 2010 after merging with Bradford & Bingley's savings business. Abbey National is NOT an entertainment industry company; it has no documented connection to film, television, or entertainment production.
