19 Entertainment is a music-focused television production company owned by Sony Pictures Television through its nonfiction division (Sony Pictures Television Nonfiction), originally founded by Simon Fuller in London in April 1985. It is best known for originating the global Pop Idol/American Idol franchise — sold to more than seventy countries — and for co-producing So You Think You Can Dance. Following a series of ownership changes through CKX Inc., CORE Media Group, and Industrial Media, it was acquired by Sony Pictures Television in March 2022 for $350 million. The company also operates 19 Recordings, 19 Publishing, and 19 Management as music-division arms supporting artists who launched careers through American Idol.
