Haunted Heist – Lil Rel Howery's Directorial Debut Begins Filming January 2025

Lil Rel Howery, known for standout roles in Get OutThe Mill, and Judas and the Black Messiah, is set to make his directorial debut with the comedy-horror feature Haunted Heist. Howery will not only direct but also star alongside Tiffany Haddish, marking an exciting reunion for the duo following their collaborations on The Carmichael Show and the Best Friends Comedy Tour.

Written by Carl Reid, the screenwriter behind Hulu’s Mr. CrocketHaunted Heist follows the story of four estranged friends who come together in what appears to be a typical house. However, one of them secretly plans to rob the place, seeking a fortune in a hidden antique. The twist? The house is haunted, and the group must overcome their differences to survive a night filled with ghostly chaos. Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with The Coven overseeing world sales, which launched at the American Film Market in Las Vegas this week. Fresh off the theatrical success of Terrifier 3, The Coven is adding Haunted Heist to its growing slate of projects. This marks the company’s second foray into production, following the 2023 Canadian thriller Shadow of God. Howery is producing alongside Josh Feldman and Sean King O’Grady, the team behind his Hulu film The Mill, as well as Feras Majid Shammami and Jesse Ford. Priscilla Ross Smith and Kendall Anlian are on board as executive producers, further cementing a seasoned production team. In a statement, Howery expressed his excitement about taking on dual roles in the project, saying, “I’m so excited to be working on this project in front and behind the camera. It’s going to be so much fun.” Priscilla Smith of The Coven added, “We are always looking for something fun and fresh. The best Saturday night movie that an audience could hope for. Haddish and Howery will knock this out of the park.”
