Joseph Wright (born 25 August 1972, London, England) is an acclaimed British film and television director known for visually inventive period dramas and genre-spanning features. He made his feature debut with Pride & Prejudice (2005), earning a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut, and followed with Atonement (2007) and the Oscar-winning Darkest Hour (2017). A master of the long take and striking mise-en-scène, Wright's recent work includes The Agency (2024, Paramount+/Showtime) and the eight-part Sky/Sky Atlantic series Mussolini: Son of the Century (2025), and he is attached to the upcoming AI thriller Alignment for Fifth Season.
