Edward Berger is a German-born director and screenwriter holding Swiss and Austrian citizenship, based in Berlin since 1997. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front (2022, Netflix), which earned nine Oscar nominations and a record 14 BAFTA nominations, winning four Oscars including Best International Feature Film. He followed that with his English-language debut Conclave (2024, Focus Features), starring Ralph Fiennes, which earned six Golden Globe nominations. He is the founder and Managing Director of Nine Hours GmbH, a Berlin-based international film and television production company with a first-look deal at Fremantle.
