Antoine Fuqua is an American film director and producer born May 30, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known for his work in the action and thriller genres. He rose to prominence with the Oscar-winning crime thriller Training Day (2001) and has since helmed blockbusters including The Equalizer trilogy (2014–2023), The Magnificent Seven (2016), Southpaw (2015), Emancipation (2022), and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael (2026), which has grossed over $850 million worldwide. Through his production banner Hill District Media (formerly Fuqua Films), he holds a first-look film deal with Netflix and an overall TV deal with Paramount/MTV Entertainment Studios. He is currently attached to direct Hannibal for Netflix, a historical epic starring Denzel Washington, though the project has been paused over budgetary concerns as of mid-2026.
