ZDF/Arte

ZDF/Arte refers to the editorial co-production department within ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen), Germany's second public broadcaster, that commissions and co-produces content for the Franco-German cultural channel ARTE. The department commissions approximately 25 themed evenings per year and around 10 cultural and pop-cultural documentaries for ARTE's 52-minute documentary strand. ARTE itself (Association relative à la télévision européenne) is a European public service channel dedicated to culture, jointly operated as an EEIG headquartered in Strasbourg, France, with its German editorial arm ARTE Deutschland TV GmbH based in Baden-Baden as a subsidiary of ARD and ZDF. The channel and its co-productions have won numerous major awards including Oscars, Palmes d'Or, Golden Bears, and César Awards.
