About
The Wilma Theater is a Tony Award-winning (2024 Regional Theatre Tony Award), non-profit professional theater company located on the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Founded in 1973 as the 'Wilma Project,' it is renowned for producing bold, original, avant-garde productions under a pioneering collaborative leadership model, including its acclaimed resident acting troupe, the HotHouse Company. The theater gained national recognition for world-premiering James Ijames' Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fat Ham, which it later co-produced on Broadway — the first Philadelphia theater to do so. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (TIN# 23-7425668) and is the first Pennsylvania theater to receive the Regional Theatre Tony Award.
