Wētā FX (formerly Weta Digital) is a world-leading digital visual effects and computer animation studio headquartered in Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand, and majority-owned by Sir Peter Jackson. Founded in 1993, the studio is renowned for pioneering performance-capture technology and creating iconic characters such as Gollum, Caesar, and the worlds of Middle-earth and Pandora. Across three decades, the company has earned eight Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, 17 Academy Sci-Tech Awards, eight BAFTA Visual Effects Awards, and 68 Visual Effects Society Awards. Wētā FX is widely regarded as the largest single-site VFX studio in the world, employing approximately 2,000 artists drawn from over 40 countries, with additional studios in Vancouver, Canada and Melbourne, Australia.
