Simon & Schuster LLC is one of the world's leading general interest publishers, considered one of the 'Big Five' English-language publishing houses alongside Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Hachette, and Macmillan. Founded in New York City on January 2, 1924 by Richard L. Simon and M. Lincoln Schuster, the company publishes approximately 2,000 titles annually across more than 35 imprints spanning fiction, nonfiction, children's, audio, and digital formats. Since October 2023, Simon & Schuster has operated as a standalone independent company following its acquisition by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) for $1.62 billion, and has aggressively expanded internationally including the 2024 acquisition of VBK, the largest Dutch book publisher.
