About

Moviedrome was a British television cult film series produced by the BBC and transmitted on BBC Two from 8 May 1988 to 9 July 2000. Created and produced/directed by BBC producer Nick Freand Jones, the series broadcast over 200 cult films each preceded by an introductory segment, first by filmmaker Alex Cox (1988–1994) and later by film critic Mark Cousins (1997–2000). Widely regarded as one of the most influential and fondly remembered film strands in British broadcast history, the series is credited with introducing a generation of UK viewers to cult, international, and obscure cinema. A retrospective documentary, 'Moviedrome: Welcome to the Cult,' directed by Nic Wassell and made exclusively for BFI Player, was released in 2025.
