LatinX Theatre Commons

The Latinx Theatre Commons (LTC) is a national movement that uses a commons-based approach to transform the narrative of American theatre, amplify the visibility of Latinx performance making, and champion equity through advocacy, art making, convening, and scholarship. Founded in 2012 by eight Latino playwrights, directors, and scholars led by Karen Zacarías, the LTC operated as a flagship program of HowlRound Theatre Commons from 2012 to 2025, and as of July 1, 2025 operates independently with Producer Hub as its fiscal sponsor. The LTC is governed by a self-organized, volunteer Steering Committee and is known for landmark convenings including the Encuentro and Carnaval of New Latinx Works festivals, as well as the El Fuego Initiative which has supported productions of Latinx playwrights at theatres across the country.
