About

The Gene Frankel Theatre is a historic Off-Off-Broadway black box theatre located at 24 Bond Street in the NoHo neighborhood of lower Manhattan, founded in 1949 by legendary director and acting teacher Gene Frankel. The 74-seat venue serves as a selective rental facility for playwrights, directors, and actors, and also hosts acting classes, four rental spaces including an underground studio, and the annual Gene Frankel Theatre Festival (GFTF), a competitive showcase for new works. Under the current leadership of Executive & Artistic Director Gail Thacker and Artistic Director Thomas R. Gordon, the theatre focuses on sociopolitical and innovative works, with an emphasis on LGBTQ+ and Black Trans voices.
