Alicia Silverstone is officially returning as Cher Horowitz in a newly greenlit Clueless sequel series, now in early development at Peacock. For filmmakers, crew members, and industry professionals, this is more than a nostalgic revival—it’s a fresh opportunity tied to a major studio-backed production with active momentum.
The project is being developed by Universal Television, with Amy Heckerling, the original film’s writer-director, attached as executive producer. Silverstone, who portrayed the fashion-forward high schooler in the 1995 cult classic, also joins the producing team alongside veteran film producer Robert Lawrence. With this familiar leadership, the series aims to recapture the spirit of the original while moving the story forward for today’s audience.
The writing and showrunning duties fall to Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage—known for Gossip Girl and The O.C.—bringing a well-established voice in teen drama to the project. Also joining the team is Jordan Weiss, the creator of Dollface, helping to shape a more modern and relevant tone.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is set in a contemporary Los Angeles, continuing Cher’s story as an adult. Given the setting and studio involvement, filming is expected to take place in and around Southern California. Though production dates have not yet been announced, the project has officially entered the development phase, putting it on the radar for pre-production planning.
For filmmakers and on-set talent in the Los Angeles area—especially those with experience on youth- or nostalgia-driven content—this series represents a promising addition to the 2025 production slate. Projects with this level of brand recognition and studio backing often move quickly once the writers’ room is fully staffed and casting rounds begin.
