Fourteen years after the original Hancock brought a fresh, irreverent spin to the superhero genre, Will Smith has confirmed that a sequel is officially in early development. With Zendaya now in talks to co-star, Hancock 2 is shaping up to be one of the most buzzed-about reboots in development, blending legacy appeal with fresh talent.
The sequel is being developed by Columbia Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment, with Smith expected to reprise his role as the troubled, reluctant superhero. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, sources say the film will expand on the mythology introduced in the first film and introduce a new generation of super-powered characters.
Currently in the development and pre-production phase, the project is actively assembling its creative and production teams. Department head discussions are underway, with early visual development artists, VFX supervisors, and screenwriters already in play. Additional casting calls and key crew hires are expected to begin as early as summer 2025.
Zendaya’s involvement, while not yet finalized, signals a strong commitment to blending star power with contemporary relevance. Insiders suggest her character may offer a compelling foil—or ally—to Smith’s Hancock, reshaping the tone and structure of the original into a more expansive and emotionally layered sequel.
