Robert Anthony Rodriguez (born June 20, 1968, San Antonio, Texas) is an American filmmaker widely regarded as one of Hollywood's most versatile and independent-minded directors, known for writing, directing, producing, shooting, and editing his own films. He broke onto the scene with the $7,000-budgeted El Mariachi (1992), which won the Sundance Audience Award and landed a Columbia Pictures distribution deal; he subsequently built a prolific career spanning the Mexico Trilogy, From Dusk Till Dawn, Spy Kids, Sin City, Alita: Battle Angel, and Star Wars TV productions including The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Based in Austin, Texas, Rodriguez operates through his production banner Troublemaker Studios and its subsidiary Double R Productions, and in 2025 launched Brass Knuckle Films, a fan-investor-driven indie action studio. He also founded the El Rey Network cable channel in 2013.
