R. Scott Gemmill is a Canadian-American television writer, producer, and showrunner born in Orangeville, Ontario and raised in Fort Erie, Ontario, who currently lives in Los Angeles. He began his career in 1989 as a story editor on Friday the 13th: The Series, going on to write and produce for JAG, ER, Women's Murder Club, The Unit, and NCIS: Los Angeles — where he served as showrunner from season 8 through the series finale in 2023, writing more than 60 episodes across all 14 seasons. He is currently the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of The Pitt (Max/HBO Max), which won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2025 and a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, and has been renewed for a third season. He also has a pilot writing deal for the upcoming CBS series NCIS: New York.
