About

Peter Berg (born March 11, 1964) is an American film and television director, producer, writer, and actor who began his career as an actor on Chicago Hope before transitioning to directing with Very Bad Things (1998). He is best known for gritty, character-driven films including Friday Night Lights (2004), Lone Survivor (2013), Deepwater Horizon (2016), and Patriots Day (2016), many in collaboration with Mark Wahlberg. Through his production banner Film 44 — and sister companies Film 45 (non-scripted) and Film 47 (branded/commercial) — he has a renewed overall deal at Netflix, where his most recent works include the limited series Painkiller, American Primeval, and the upcoming WWII feature The Mosquito Bowl. He is also attached to direct Call of Duty for Paramount alongside Taylor Sheridan.
