Adam Wingard (born December 3, 1982, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee) is an American filmmaker who began his career as part of the mumblecore movement before establishing himself as a major voice in horror and action cinema. He is best known for directing You're Next (2011), The Guest (2014), Blair Witch (2016), Death Note (2017), and the MonsterVerse blockbusters Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). His most recent film, Onslaught (2026), an action slasher produced by A24 and starring Adria Arjona and Dan Stevens, was released theatrically on September 4, 2026, and has been confirmed by Wingard as part of the same continuity as The Guest and You're Next. Operating under his production banner Population 1280 Films, Wingard frequently collaborates with writer Simon Barrett.
