Xstream Pictures

Xstream Pictures is a Chinese independent film production company co-founded in 2003 by acclaimed Sixth Generation director Jia Zhangke, cinematographer/producer Yu Lik-wai, and producer Chow Keung, with offices in Beijing and Hong Kong. The company specializes in producing and co-producing arthouse and independent films exploring social and cultural themes in contemporary China, while also engaging in international co-productions and acquiring international arthouse films for Chinese distribution. It is best known for producing Jia Zhangke's award-winning features including Still Life (Venice Golden Lion, 2006), A Touch of Sin (Cannes Best Screenplay, 2013), Mountains May Depart (2015), Ash Is Purest White (2018), and Caught by the Tides (Cannes 2024), as well as international co-productions such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Memoria (2021) and Kavich Neang's White Building (2021). In 2025, Jia Zhangke co-founded a separate distribution venture, Unknown Pleasures Pictures (UPP), to champion international arthouse films in Chinese cinemas.
