United Artists

United Artists (UA) is one of Hollywood's most storied film production and distribution labels, originally founded in 1919 by Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks on the principle of creative independence for artists. After decades of ownership changes — including acquisition by MGM in 1981 and then Amazon's $8.45 billion purchase of MGM in 2022 — the UA label was revived in July 2024 under Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with former Netflix Film Chairman Scott Stuber, who oversees a new production slate releasing films both theatrically and on Prime Video. The revived label is based at Amazon MGM Studios' Culver City campus and operates as a filmmaker-focused banner within the Amazon MGM umbrella.
