Slovak Television

Slovenská televízia (Slovak Television, STV) was Slovakia's state-owned public television organization, established in 1991 as an independent institution following Slovak independence from Czechoslovakia, with roots tracing back to a Bratislava television studio founded in 1956. It operated two primary channels, Jednotka and Dvojka (plus a short-lived sports channel, Trojka), and was funded through a combination of television licence fees, advertising, and government grants. On 1 January 2011, STV was dissolved and merged with Slovak Radio (Slovenský rozhlas) to form Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS), which itself was restructured into Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) on 1 July 2024. The organization's successor, STVR, remains headquartered in Bratislava and is led by General Director Martina Flašíková.
