Parts & Labor

Parts & Labor is a Brooklyn-based independent film production company founded in 2004 by producers Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen, who met while working as assistants to Scott Rudin. The company became one of the most prolific indie production outfits of its era, championing director-driven, collaborative filmmaking and helping launch the careers of auteurs including Kelly Reichardt, David Lowery, and Robert Eggers. In 2016, Knudsen and Van Hoy parted ways, with Van Hoy retaining the Parts & Labor brand; by that time the company had credits on nearly 30 features and earned an Oscar, multiple Independent Spirit Awards, eight Sundance awards, and three Cannes awards. Van Hoy continues to operate under the Parts & Labor banner, expanding into series and multi-platform projects.
