Paramount Animation is the animation division and label of Paramount Pictures, a subsidiary of Paramount Skydance, founded on July 6, 2011, following the critical and commercial success of Rango and the expiration of Paramount's distribution deal with DreamWorks Animation. The studio develops, produces, and releases animated feature films—both theatrical and streaming—often in collaboration with sister label Nickelodeon Movies, with a strong focus on franchise IP such as SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Paramount Animation outsources its animation production to third-party studios such as Mikros Image, Reel FX, and Industrial Light & Magic, functioning as a creative and strategic label rather than an in-house production facility. Its films have collectively grossed over $1.178 billion worldwide at the box office.
