About

Lightning Pictures was a genre film production and distribution label that operated as a division of Vestron Pictures (itself a unit of Vestron Inc.) from approximately 1987 to 1989. Headed by Lawrence Kasanoff, the label focused on low-budget genre films with production budgets under $2 million, releasing titles such as Blue Steel (1990), Class of 1999 (1990), Far from Home (1989), and Dream a Little Dream (1989). The company ceased operations when Vestron Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and its assets were absorbed by LIVE Entertainment, which was later succeeded by Lionsgate Films. A separate but contemporaneous entity, Lightning Pictures Inc. (IMDb co0110109), distributed additional genre titles of the late 1980s including Street Trash (1987), Blood Diner (1987), and C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud (1989).
