La Jolla Playhouse

La Jolla Playhouse is a Tony Award-winning nonprofit professional theatre on the campus of the University of California, San Diego, founded in 1947 by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, and Mel Ferrer. Internationally renowned as an incubator for new American theatre, it has produced over 37 Broadway transfers — including Jersey Boys, Come From Away, Memphis, and The Outsiders — and has won more than 300 honors including the 1993 Tony Award as America's Outstanding Regional Theatre. The Playhouse is known for its DNA New Work Series, Without Walls (WOW) Festival of immersive/site-specific productions, and robust artist commissioning and residency programs. Currently led by newly appointed Artistic Director Jessica Stone (2026–) and longtime Managing Director Debby Buchholz.
