About

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC; 영화진흥위원회) is a state-supported, self-administered government agency established in 1973 under South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, dedicated to promoting and supporting Korean films both domestically and internationally. KOFIC provides funding, research, education, training, and international marketing support to the Korean film industry, and operates programs including production support, distribution grants, the KOFIC Location Incentive (up to 30% cash rebate for foreign productions filming in Korea), and international co-production facilitation. The council also operates KoBiz (Korean Film Biz Zone), its international-facing web portal and industry resource hub, and maintains offices, film studios, and the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) as subsidiary institutions. KOFIC is composed of nine commissioners including one full-time chairperson, appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
