Department M

Department M is an independent production and financing company founded in January 2024 by producers Mike Larocca (formerly co-founder and president of AGBO) and Michael Schaefer (former president of New Regency). Backed by a consortium of private investors including Forta Advisors, the company focuses on director-driven feature films across a range of genres, from prestige drama to horror. Its slate includes Steven Soderbergh's The Christophers (acquired by Neon), the Hulu horror remake The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and upcoming titles Blood on Snow and a new Count of Monte Cristo. As of early 2026, Department M was in high-profile talks to acquire a major stake in indie distributor Neon.
