Crunchyroll, LLC is an American entertainment company and the world's largest anime streaming platform, operated as an independently run joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex (a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment Japan), both subsidiaries of Sony Group Corporation. The platform connects anime and manga fans across 200+ countries and territories with one of the largest licensed anime libraries in the world, offering simulcast streaming, subscription and ad-supported tiers, theatrical releases, merchandise, games, consumer products, and manga publishing. Originally founded as Funimation in 1994, the company was rebranded Crunchyroll, LLC in March 2022 following Sony's $1.175 billion acquisition of the Crunchyroll streaming service from AT&T/WarnerMedia and the full integration of Funimation's library and subscriber base. As of May 2026, the platform serves 21 million subscribers worldwide.
