About

CoMix Wave Films Inc. is a Japanese independent animation film studio and distribution company founded in March 2007 as a spin-off from CoMix Wave Inc., headquartered in Ogikubo, Suginami, Tokyo. The studio is internationally renowned for producing and distributing original-IP anime feature films directed by Makoto Shinkai, including global blockbusters Your Name. (2016), Weathering with You (2019), and Suzume (2022). Unlike most anime studios, CWF self-finances its own original properties and manages the full creative pipeline — from concept and animation through domestic distribution, package sales, and overseas licensing — with a lean, highly skilled in-house team. In October 2024, Toho Corporation acquired a 6.09% strategic stake in the studio, and in May 2024 Tomohiro Tokunaga succeeded Noritaka Kawaguchi as President & CEO.
