ANCINE (Agência Nacional do Cinema) is Brazil's federal regulatory agency for the cinema and audiovisual industry, established in September 2001 under Provisional Measure 2,228-1. Headquartered in Brasília with its central office in Rio de Janeiro, it is responsible for promoting, regulating, and supervising the Brazilian audiovisual sector, including production, distribution, and exhibition. ANCINE also administers the Audiovisual Sector Fund (FSA – Fundo Setorial do Audiovisual), the primary public funding mechanism for Brazilian film and TV production, and oversees CONDECINE tax collection and issuance of the Certificate of Brazilian Product. It is linked to the Ministry of Culture and governed by a Senate-approved collegial board comprising a Diretor-Presidente and three Directors with fixed mandates.
