Oliver Hermanus is a South African writer-director born in Cape Town on May 26, 1983, whose features have competed in the official selections of Cannes, Venice, and Sundance, establishing him as a leading voice in global arthouse cinema. His films include Beauty (2011, Queer Palm winner at Cannes), Moffie (2019), Living (2022, two Academy Award nominations and four BAFTA nominations), the television miniseries Mary & George (2024, Sky/Starz), and The History of Sound (2025, competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes starring Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor). He became a DGA member in 2024 and is currently in active development on an Alexander McQueen biopic for Pathé, with a screenplay by Harry Lighton.
