Ang Lee (born October 23, 1954, Pingtung County, Taiwan) is a three-time Academy Award–winning Taiwanese-American filmmaker and one of the most celebrated directors of his generation, known for an extraordinary range of genres across more than three decades. He is the only filmmaker to have won the Golden Bear twice (The Wedding Banquet, Sense and Sensibility) and one of only four to win the Golden Lion twice (Brokeback Mountain, Lust, Caution); his Academy Award–winning films include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Best Foreign Language Film), Brokeback Mountain (Best Director), and Life of Pi (Best Director). He received the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2025 and the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honor in February 2026. He is currently in production on Gold Mountain, a Gold Rush–era period epic shooting in Northern California in 2026, while his long-gestating Bruce Lee biopic remains on hold.
