Theater for the New City

Theater for the New City (TNC) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning nonprofit Off-Off-Broadway community cultural center co-founded in 1971 by Crystal Field and George Bartenieff, located in a 30,000-square-foot former WPA building at 155 First Avenue in Manhattan's East Village. One of New York City's most prolific theatrical organizations, TNC produces 30–40 premieres of new American plays per year across four theater spaces, alongside free community festivals including the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, the Village Halloween Costume Ball, and an Annual Summer Street Theater tour across all five boroughs. Productions and its resident theater program have garnered a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 43 OBIE Awards, and the organization is also the only theatrical organization to have won the Mayor's Stop The Violence award.
