Participant Media (also known simply as 'Participant') was a Beverly Hills-based independent film and television production and financing company founded in January 2004 by eBay co-founder Jeff Skoll, dedicated to creating socially impactful entertainment. The company was the largest certified B Corp in the entertainment industry and produced, financed, or co-produced over 135 films and 5 television series, accumulating 73+ Academy Award nominations and 21 wins, including Best Picture for Spotlight (2015) and Green Book (2018), along with more than $3.3 billion in global box office revenue. On April 16, 2024, founder Jeff Skoll announced the company would wind down active operations after 20 years, citing challenges in the evolving streaming landscape and the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes; a holding company now manages its library of approximately 140 titles.
