National Black TheatreFollow

National Black Theatre (NBT) is a Tony Award-nominated, nonprofit cultural and educational institution founded in 1968 by the late Dr. Barbara Ann Teer in Harlem, New York City. It is the nation's first revenue-generating Black arts complex and the longest-running Black theater in New York City. NBT's core mission is to produce transformational theater that shifts inaccuracies around African Americans' cultural identity by telling authentic stories of Black lives, and to provide a courageous space for artists of the Black diaspora to develop their craft across acting, directing, producing, and playwriting. NBT has produced over 300 original works, earned 58+ AUDELCO Awards, been included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, and made its Broadway debut in 2023 with the co-production of Fat Ham.
