Marvel Entertainment, LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company and one of the world's most prominent character-based entertainment companies, built on a library of more than 8,000 characters developed over 85+ years. The company leverages its franchises across entertainment, licensing, and publishing — most notably through Marvel Comics (via Marvel Worldwide), the Marvel Cinematic Universe (via Marvel Studios), and consumer products. Formally incorporated in 1998 from the merger of Marvel Entertainment Group and Toy Biz, Marvel's remaining standalone units were folded into Disney's other divisions in March 2023, with the Marvel brand continuing under the umbrella of Disney Entertainment and Walt Disney Studios.
