K2 Pictures

K2 Pictures Inc. is a Tokyo-based independent film production, distribution, and financing company founded in August 2023 by veteran Toei producer Muneyuki Kii. The company disrupts Japan's traditional 'production committee' model by adopting a Hollywood-style fund-based approach through its K2P Film Fund I — which closed in February 2026 having raised approximately ¥5 billion (~$33M USD) in equity from institutional investors including Mitsubishi UFJ Bank and the Development Bank of Japan, plus $67M in debt financing for a total of $100M. K2 Pictures collaborates with internationally acclaimed directors including Hirokazu Kore-eda, Takashi Miike, Shunji Iwai, Miwa Nishikawa, and Kazuya Shiraishi, as well as animation studio MAPPA, targeting both Japanese domestic and global audiences. The company has expanded rapidly with subsidiaries in Japan (production and music), South Korea, and Taiwan, positioning it as a rising mini-studio in Asia-Pacific cinema.
