About

Geffen Playhouse is a not-for-profit theater company founded in 1995 by Gilbert Cates in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA, named in honor of entertainment philanthropist David Geffen. Proudly associated with UCLA, it presents world premieres, classic revivals, and contemporary plays across two intimate venues—the 512-seat Gil Cates Theater and the 149-seat Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater—drawing an audience of more than 130,000 annually. Under Executive Director/CEO Gil Cates, Jr. and Artistic Director Tarell Alvin McCraney, the Geffen has garnered national recognition and is considered one of Los Angeles's preeminent regional theater institutions. The organization also maintains extensive education and community engagement programs designed to involve underserved youth and the broader community in the arts.
