About

DreamWorks Pictures, originally known as DreamWorks SKG, is an American film production label and subsidiary of Amblin Partners, founded on October 12, 1994, by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen — whose initials form the 'SKG' in the company's trade name. Originally an independent studio spanning live-action film, animation, television, music, and interactive entertainment, the company was sold to Viacom/Paramount in 2006, re-emerged as an independent entity in 2008 with Reliance ADA Group backing, and was ultimately reconstituted as a brand under Amblin Partners in 2015. As of 2016, DreamWorks films are marketed and distributed by Universal Pictures, with the label operating out of offices at Universal Studios in Universal City, California.
