About

Crackle (formerly Grouper, later Sony Crackle, then rebranded as Crackle Plus, LLC) was an American ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) streaming service founded in 2004, acquired by Sony Pictures in 2006, and later sold to Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment in 2019. Known for offering free, ad-supported streaming of movies, TV shows, and original programming (including 'The Oath,' 'SuperMansion,' and 'Going From Broke'), Crackle operated as one of the largest AVOD networks in the U.S. with approximately 40 million monthly active users at its peak. The parent company, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation on July 10, 2024, effectively ending Crackle's operations; the website continued operating under a Chapter 7 trustee through approximately June 2025.
